GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Abstract
Environmental, technological, geographic, socio-environmental, economic, cultural, geopolitical, oceanographic, and biogeographical dynamics, and particularly local and global environmental problems related to climate change, stand out as one of the most serious current global challenges, on which the future of humanity dangerously depends. This challenge can never be solved by a single country and/or region. International cooperation and the exchange of experiences in scientific and practical knowledge, between different branches of knowledge, schools, institutions and researchers, are essential to achieve our ultimate goal, which is sustainable development. It is in this context that the journal, MOÇAMBIQUE GEODIVERSO – MOZGEO, presents itself as a space for international scientific publication, converging experiences, knowledge and solutions for sustainable economic, social, cultural and environmental development.
MOZGEO is a Mozambican journal with international coverage of studies on physical, human, economic and social geography, and the environment in general, to understand human-earth relations and promote sustainable development. MOZGEO belongs to the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences (FCTA), of the Pedagogical University of Maputo (UPM), and its mission is to disseminate scientific knowledge in the area of geographic, physical, human, social, geosciences and environmental sciences, of interdisciplinary interest and of national and foreign higher education institutions, national and international research. MOZGEO focuses on studies of the links and mechanisms between physical, human and sustainable development space.
MOZGEO aims to publish high-quality, cross-sectional original research from a wide range of geography and related areas such as biogeography, zoogeography, climatogeography, human and/or economic geography, environment, sustainability and computing and geosciences, and welcomes submissions that promote geotechnological innovation or use geotechnics and modeling methods to study various phenomena in physical, human and sustainable development space in the world and Mozambique in particular. It is an open access journal focused on advancing the understanding of the impact on human-environment relationships, of the elements and their interactions with physical and human spaces. By examining these connections and mechanisms, MOZGEO seeks to contribute to sustainable development and deepen our knowledge of the complex human-environment interaction.
Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
Earth surface system; Environmental science; Geosciences; GIS and remote sensing; Climate change; Migrations and conflicts; Environmental and ecological technology; Geographical and environmental applications; Geographic big data; Geographic modelling and simulation; IT environment, resources and disasters; Management of environmental, social and technological risks; Management of natural resources; Physical geography and development; Human and economic geography; Geography of regional information; Regional geography; Territorial and urban planning; Cartography and surveying; Sustainable development goals; Socio-ecological-technical systems; Time Geography; Geography of health; Ecodevelopment; Urbanism; Teaching Geography and the environment.
The journal pays special attention to interdisciplinary research in physical, human, and information systems, and to cutting-edge investigations that address today's most pressing issues. Our mission is to establish an influential communication platform between scientists, modelers, policy makers, stakeholders and practitioners from academia and industry, and inform strategic decision-making to achieve sustainable development. The journal has an interdisciplinary focus, filling a gap in the impact of human-environment relations, of the elements and their interactions with physical and human spaces in Mozambique and from Mozambique to the World, offering a platform for interdisciplinary research collaborations and innovative insights. Seeks to achieve global visibility: Publishing in Information Geography offers global visibility to researchers, practitioners and policy makers focused on spatial and temporal dimensions, their interactions with physical and human spaces.
As an open access journal, the articles published here are freely accessible to all and widely shared with the university community and beyond for the consumption of the material. MOZGEO prioritizes, above all, rigorous peer review under the leadership of Professor José Lourenço Neves, PhD from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. He leads a scientific and editorial board with international experience in scientific production and peer review, composed of active experts, ensuring publications of the highest quality.
